Auto Assessment: Here’s what to do….

Jul 5, 2025

What’s auto-assessment?

Basically, SARS figures out your taxes for you using info they already have. You don’t have to do anything unless you’re not happy with it.

Who can do this?

Some provisional taxpayers (like you) can now choose to be part of it this year.

How to join:

Head to the SARS website and look for “Provisional Auto Assessment Request”.

Fill in your details.

SARS will send you a one-time PIN to verify who you are.

When asked, pick “Yes” or “No” to auto-assessment.

Do this before Friday, 18 July 2025.

If you join:

No need to file a tax return unless you disagree with what SARS calculated.

If you don’t agree, just file your return by 20 October 2025 or ask for more time.

If you’re getting a refund, it’ll be in your bank within 72 hours (if your details are correct).

If you owe SARS money, the deadline to pay is extended to 30 November 2025.
